Guide to Tattoo Aftercare

Proper aftercare is crucial to ensure that your tattoo heals correctly and looks great for years to come. Here are some tips for taking care of your new tattoo:

  1. Leave the bandage on for a few hours : Your tattoo artist will cover your tattoo with a bandage or plastic wrap after they finish. Leave this on for at least a few hours to allow your skin to heal and prevent bacteria from getting into the tattoo.

  2. Wash your tattoo gently : After you remove the bandage, wash your tattoo gently with mild soap and warm water. Use your hands or a clean, soft cloth to wash away any excess blood, ink, or ointment.

  3. Apply a thin layer of Vaseline : After you wash your tattoo, apply a thin layer of ointment / Vaseline petroleum jelly to help soothe the skin and promote healing.

  4. Avoid swimming and hot tubs : For at least two weeks after getting your tattoo, avoid swimming or soaking in a hot tub or bathtub. This can cause the tattoo to become infected or fade.

  5. Don't scratch or pick at your tattoo : As your tattoo heals, it may become itchy. Resist the urge to scratch or pick at it, as this can cause scabbing or scarring.

  6. Wear loose, comfortable clothing : During the healing process, your tattoo may ooze ink or blood. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that won't stick to the tattoo or rub against it.

  7. Stay out of the sun : Avoid exposing your tattoo to direct sunlight for at least a few weeks after getting it. Sunlight can cause the ink to fade and damage the skin.

  8. Keep your tattoo clean and dry : As your tattoo heals, keep it clean and dry. Avoid soaking it in water or exposing it to excessive moisture.

Remember, proper aftercare is key to ensuring that your tattoo heals correctly and looks great for years to come. Follow these tips, and your tattoo will look amazing!
