Avoid tattooing during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy and breastfeeding are special times in a woman's life when she needs to take extra care of her health and well-being, as well as that of her developing fetus or infant. While tattooing has become a popular form of self-expression and art, it is important to understand the potential risks involved for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.

There are several reasons why pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers are advised not to get tattooed:

  1. Risk of Infection: Tattooing involves piercing the skin with needles, which can introduce bacteria and other microorganisms into the body. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers are more susceptible to infections, which can potentially harm the developing fetus or be passed on to the infant through breast milk.

  2. Risk of Allergic Reaction: Some people may be allergic to the ink or other materials used in tattoos. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers are more likely to experience allergic reactions, which can cause skin rashes, itching, and other symptoms.

  3. Risk of Complications: Pregnancy and breastfeeding can cause changes in the body that may affect how the skin reacts to tattooing. For example, hormonal changes can cause the skin to become more sensitive or prone to scarring. These changes can increase the risk of complications during and after the tattooing process.

  4. Uncertainty over the safety: There is limited research on the safety of getting tattoos during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. As a result, most healthcare providers advise against it as a precautionary measure.

Its best for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers to avoid getting tattooed until after they have finished breastfeeding and their baby is no longer dependent on breast milk.
